Chapter 03. Policy |
|
The era from inception to the foundation of
"Kobayashi Daiyakubou Co., Ltd." with headquarters in Osaka, established
the 100 year foundation for Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Circumstances
during this period remain unclear atsmaterials were scattered and
lost during the war. However, when considering the current state of
Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., it is impossible to talk about
the company without taking into account this highly tumultuous period.
This is because Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. has its basis in
this period.
Chubei was an industrialist through and through, a 'merchant' to use
a term in line with that period. He gave the business world all he
had - his time, his talents and his vitality. He had tremendous drive
when it came to work, overwhelming others with his position of progress
at all costs. His business ambitions were limitless and it is evident
that his mind was a wellspring of ideas.
The "Company Rules" (as they are called) that he followed in developing
business, rules which might also be called treasured mottos or company
sayings, still remain with us. They are simple and unambiguous. The
"gist" of his business approach is summed up in the following 5 words:
 |
"Study" |
| "Narrow profit margin" |
| "Confidence" |
| "Speed" |
| "Sincerity" |
Chubei further expressed himself simply with the following 3 "principles":
 |
1. The principle of narrow profit margins. |
| 2. The principle of large sales volume. |
| 3. The principle of speed. |
His idea was not to indulge in a reckless pursuit
of profits, but rather to satisfy the customers, to work towards larger
sales volume and rising profits accordingly, operating speedily and
efficiently, all with the intent of furthering corporate expansion
and development.
Even now, these 3 "principles", which have been carried on for over
a century, seem not the slightest bit old-fashioned or obsolete.
In English, a "Principle" is defined as a "single, clear position."
That is to say, the word means a distinction between objectives and
wishes, living and working from a single position established in the
here and now. It is an extremely strong expression. |
