Overview of Kobayashi Pharmaceutical's Medical Devices Business
Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is also vigorously engaged in the medical device business with the corporate motto: to provide people and society with excellent "goods and services." The Medical Devices Operation has a longer history than the public believes. Since the establishment of Japan Medico, Inc. (presently Medicon, Inc.) in June 1972, this Business has grown to become the third central pillar of the Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Group along with Consumer Products and Wholesale Operations.
The Medical Devices Operation in Japan consists of two players: Medicon, Inc., a joint corporation with C. R. Bard of the US, and Kobayashi Medical Co., Ltd.



Medicon.Inc.

Medicon, Inc. is engaged in marketing of the state-of-the-art medical equipments and devices of C.R. Bard mainly in the fields of urology and gastrointestinal medicine.

Kobayashi Medical Co., Ltd.

Kobayashi Medical Division deals mainly with products related to orthopedics, anesthesiology, operating room, neurosurgery and otolaryngology. It introduces and markets high quality medical devices from all over the world in Japan. In 2003, its trading function was expanded and a product development center was established. We are actively working on the development and refinement of products that meet customers' needs and are making every effort to improve our corporate brands.

* History of the operation
October 1992Kobayashi Medical Division established.
December 1992Transferred the rights to market electrosurgical units, ECG monitoring-related products and respiratory oxygen therapy-related products from Medicon, Inc.
February 1993Entered the spinal market in orthopedics.
July 1993Entered the pain control market.
January 1994Enters Neurosurgery market.
October 1995Entered the interventional (intravascular surgery) market.
January 1997Entered the otolaryngology market.
September 1997Entered the joint market in orthopedics.
August 1998Entered the anesthesia control market.
February 1999Entered the market for treatment of pain in pain clinics.
May 1999Entered the arthroscopic market in orthopedics.
January 1999Entered the fracture treatment market in orthopedics.
January 2002Entered the artificial bone market.
January 2002Entered the absorptive material market in plastic surgery, orthopedics and oral surgery.
April 2010 Kobayashi Medical Co., Ltd. was independent.
